It was a memorable day of fishing along the Rock River over the weekend for a young Orange City fisherman.
12-year-old Hudson De Groot was casting lines with family on Friday when he reeled in a 27-inch walleye.
Using a Rapala crankbait—a lure designed to dive and mimic swimming baitfish—De Groot hooked the walleye after about 15 to 20 minutes on the water. He says the fish was on the line for roughly 10 seconds before being brought in.
While it’s unclear if the catch sets any records for the Rock River, De Groot says he was thrilled to land such a large walleye and share the moment with his family.
