Worthington Man Arrested on Multiple Felony Sex Abuse Charges in Sioux Center

A Worthington man has been arrested on multiple felony sex abuse charges following an investigation by the Sioux Center Police Department.

According to court documents, 19-year-old Hamilton Gabriel Marroquin of Worthington is accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old. He was arrested on Sunday.

In his report, the investigating officer says he initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle driving on the wrong side of the highway. During the stop, the officer encountered a driver and a passenger who were giving conflicting statements.

The officer says it was later determined that the 13-year-old passenger had allegedly been a victim of sexual abuse by Marroquin. Court documents state the pair had just been to Walmart to purchase emergency contraception after the victim demanded that Marroquin buy it.

Marroquin has been charged with two counts of sexual abuse in the second degree, both class B felonies; one count of lascivious acts with a child, a class C felony; and one count of grooming, a class D felony.

If convicted, Marroquin could face up to 25 years in prison on each of the class B felony charges, up to ten years on the class C felony charge, and up to five years on the class D felony charge.

He is scheduled to make an initial appearance in court, with a preliminary hearing set for February 3rd.

At last report, Marroquin remained in the Sioux County Jail in Orange City in lieu of a $25,000 cash or surety bond.
