West Sioux Community Schools Hold First of Two Information Meetings

The West Sioux Community School district held its first communication/information meeting in Ireton Monday evening pertaining to the School Districts potential third school bond issue.

Two previous proposed bond issues failed to receive the required votes for approval. The most recent vote was this past March, were a $15 million bond meant for renovations at two elementary schools in Hawarden and Ireton, failed passage. In 2022, voters narrowly rejected a bond increase that would’ve funded the construction of a brand-new elementary school in Ireton. Although a majority of voters approved the proposals in both of the votes, neither of the measures received the required 60 percent for passage.

Another communication/information meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 22 at 6pm at the Hawarden Community Center. The next bond issue can be placed on the ballot in November, 2023.
