Walmart Stoplight Intersection – 16th St. S – Will Close Soon as Highway 75 Project Continues

As part Phase 1 construction of the highway 75 project, from 20th St. to 13th St. S, in Sioux Center, 16th Street SW from Highway 75 to near Dairy Queen will be closing soon to remove and replace pavement and do utility work. The closure will remain in place for several months, and the closure may begin as soon as next Thursday, June 29th.

Contractors are completing the work on 13th St. SW and 2nd Ave. SW which will create the new alternative route to the Walmart area, allowing for the closure of 16th St. SW. A temporary stoplight is planned for the intersection of 13th St. SW and Highway 75.

The utility installation along phase 1 of the project is complete, contractors are now in the process of preparing the west lanes of Highway 75 to be paved which will likely begin in early August.

As Phase 2 of the project nears, work from 13th St. South to 12th St. North, residents, businesses, and motorists are reminded that there will not be head-to-head traffic as previously planned. To improve safety and reduce time and cost for construction, this two-year phase will be completed with 3-4 block full-closures. A detour/truck route will be set up for through and truck traffic during the two construction seasons of Phase 2.

Business owners are invited to a Business Owner Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, July 27 at 8:30am, at Terrace View Event Center. Business owners will have the opportunity to meet with the engineers and city planners to review the plan and begin to think through access during 2024 and 2025 construction.

Sioux Center will have a reprieve from highway construction until 2027; that’s when the Iowa DOT is planning to rebuild Highway 75 from 12th St. North in Sioux Center to US Highway 18.
