Two-vehicle crash in Sioux Center sends one to hospital, causes rollover

SIOUX CENTER — One person was transported to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in Sioux Center that resulted in a vehicle rollover.

According to a Sioux Center Police Department report , the accident happened at approximately 9:20 a.m. on April 29th near the west end of Bethel Christian Reformed Church, in the area of First Avenue Southwest and Fifth Street Southwest.

Authorities say a 2015 Chevrolet Express van, driven by 55-year-old Efren Arnoldo Olivares Ulloa of Sioux City, was traveling westbound on First Avenue Southwest. At the same time, a 2020 Ford EcoSport was traveling northbound on First Avenue Southwest.

The report indicates the van attempted a maneuver within the intersection and was struck on the passenger side by the northbound SUV. The impact caused the Ford EcoSport to overturn.

Emergency crews had to extricate the driver of the SUV from the vehicle. That driver was then transported to Sioux Center Health by ambulance with possible injuries.

Olivares Ulloa was not injured in the crash.

Police say the driver of the Ford EcoSport was cited for failure to yield while entering the intersection.

Both vehicles sustained functional damage. The SUV was towed from the scene, while the van was able to be driven away.

The crash occurred during daylight hours under clear weather conditions, and road conditions were dry at the time.

It should be noted that a criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
