Two Injured in Crash Near Sioux Center

Two people were injured in a crash on Monday afternoon just west of Sioux Center.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the scene at 3:27 p.m. on Monday, January 26, at the intersection of 410th Street and Grant Avenue, about a half-mile west of Sioux Center.

Authorities say 30-year-old Chase Reichle of Sioux Center was driving a 2019 Chevrolet 3500 pickup eastbound on 410th Street. At the same time, 90-year-old Martin Weirda of Sioux Center was driving a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 southbound on Grant Avenue.

Investigators say Weirda failed to yield the right of way at the uncontrolled gravel intersection, and the two vehicles collided.

Weirda and his passenger, 87-year-old Shirley Weirda of Sioux Center, were transported by Sioux Center Ambulance to Sioux Center Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $20,000.

Weirda was cited for failing to yield at an uncontrolled intersection.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sioux Center Fire Department, Sioux Center Ambulance, and the Sioux Center Police Department.
