Two Arrested Following Disturbance at Sioux County Courthouse

On Monday, March 11, at 4:13 p.m. the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office arrested 45-year old Jeramie Davies and 38-year old Ashley Schoppman, both of Hawarden.

The arrests stemmed from a report that Davies was disorderly in a hearing inside a Courtroom of the Sioux County Courthouse.

When responding officers arrived, they located Davies, who was extremely agitated and demanding to speak with a Judge, using profane language in the Courtroom. After a District Court Judge instructed Davies to stop his aggressive actions, Davies continued his abusive language at the Judge. The Judge then ordered Davies to be held in contempt of Court. The Judge also ordered Schoppman, who was present with Davies at the hearing, to stop video-recording the incident and she refused to do so; the Judge then ordered Schoppman to be held in contempt.

Both Davies and Schoppman were transported to the Sioux County Jail as they were both ordered by the Court to be confined to jail for 24 hours; additionally, Davies was charged with disorderly conduct.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Orange City Police Department.
