Emergency responders were called to two separate crashes involving Sioux Center residents on Tuesday, July 8.
The first occurred around 11:30 a.m., east of town at the intersection of Ibex Avenue and 380th Street. Authorities say 72-year-old Mark Schuiteman was hospitalized after his Ford F-150 collided with a Ford F-250 driven by 16-year-old Ivan Perez-Martin. Perez-Martin was cited for operating without a valid license and failing to yield at an uncontrolled intersection. Both vehicles sustained significant damage, estimated at over $20,000 each.
Later that afternoon, at 5:20 p.m., a second crash took place in front of Bomgaars on Highway 75. A northbound Chevy Suburban driven by 55-year-old Guillermo Andres Pedro was attempting to turn into the Bomgaars driveway and turned into the path of a southbound Chevy Impala. The Impala’s driver, 26-year-old Justin Vander Veen, was taken to Sioux Center Health. Pedro was also cited for failure to yield and driving without a valid license. Both vehicles in the second crash were totaled.
Responding agencies included Sioux Center Police, Fire, and Ambulance, the Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa State Patrol.
