Sioux Center is planning a new water tower with a capacity of 750,000 to 1 million gallons—more than the city’s two existing towers combined. The City Council has approved moving forward with the design, with construction expected near the Walmart area and completion targeted for 2028.
The Iowa DNR recommends at least 1 million gallons of elevated storage, while Sioux Center currently has about 650,000 gallons. With peak daily usage recently hitting 1.8 million gallons, officials say the new tower is critical for reliability, fire protection, and future growth.
The taller tower will also enhance the city’s use of water from the Lewis & Clark Regional Water System, especially during dry periods. Long-term plans may include raising the height of existing towers and replacing the oldest one, built in the 1960s.
The Water Department serves over 2,600 homes and businesses, and continues to upgrade infrastructure to meet growing demand and ensure reliable service for future generations.
