SUV Destroyed in Fire Near Rock Valley

An SUV was destroyed in a fire on Monday afternoon (January 19) near Rock Valley.

According to Rock Valley Fire Chief Brent Eshuis, at about 2:15 p.m., the Rock Valley Fire Department was called to the report of a vehicle fire at 320th Street and Fig Avenue, about a mile south of Rock Valley on K30 and a mile east.

When firefighters arrived on scene, Eshuis says the engine compartment was fully engulfed in flames, with the fire beginning to spread into the passenger compartment. He says crews used both water and foam to fight the fire.

Eshuis reports that no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined, but it started in the engine compartment.

Chief Eshuis says the SUV was totaled in the fire.

Firefighters remained on the scene for about 15 to 20 minutes.

The Rock Valley Ambulance Squad and Sioux County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the response.
