Sioux County supervisors have certified the results of West Sioux Community School District’s special election, confirming voter approval of the district’s Physical Plant and Equipment Levy renewal.
County Elections Administrator Ashley Riibe presented the results during the board’s September 15 meeting. The September 8 election drew 303 voters, with 189 voting in favor and 114 opposed. The measure passed with approximately 62 percent support.
The levy helps support school facilities, maintenance, and equipment needs. Voting locations operated in Hawarden and Ireton.
Riibe said the election ran smoothly.
“It was such an easy day. Great election. So (it) went off without a hitch,” Riibe told supervisors.
The estimated election cost was approximately $3,279, with most of that expense covering election workers. Supervisors approved the canvass, formally certifying the results.
Riibe also provided an update on preparations for the November general election. She said ballots were being ordered and programmed, with in-person absentee voting at the courthouse set to begin October 14.
