Summer Celebration Begins

Sioux Center’s Summer Celebration is packed with fun Thursday, June 6 through Saturday, June 8, including bringing the Johnny Holm Band back to town! The three days of festivities have events for all ages, and many are free!

Rev up your night with this year’s new event, Summer Celebration Cruise-In at the Centre Mall parking lot! Check out classic cars and hot rods before you hit the free street dance, all on Friday, June 7. The Johnny Holm Band is headlining the street dance in downtown Sioux Center. Music begins at 7:30 p.m. with local favorite, The Ruralists, and the Johnny Holm Band takes the stage 9 p.m.-midnight. A beverage garden, food trucks, and pizza will be available.

Summer Celebration classics will be back, like Thursday’s free Community Cook-Out, Saturday’s free Kids Karnival and the car show at Central Park, plus the Summer Celebration parade. Crowd favorite The Sound of Music musical will be showing daily at the air-conditioned Te Paske Theatre in the Sioux Center Middle School.

“With tremendous support from local sponsors, we can provide most of the weekend activities for free for all to enjoy,” stated Chamber CEO, Barb Den Herder. “Not only that, but volunteers hours from businesses and individuals really fuel this event and make it all about community.”

Summer Celebration wouldn’t be complete without great food. Food vendors and food trucks will be set up downtown on Friday and food vendors will be in Central Park Saturday for delicious eats like funnel cakes, pulled pork sandwiches, Mexican tacos, enchiladas, and more. A pancake breakfast Saturday at Sioux Center Fire Station 1 raises money for local schools. The Fire & Smoke BBQ Challenge is back Saturday for a contest of flavor, with the opportunity to buy a ticket and sample the contestants’ work.

“We’re looking forward to fun for everyone at Summer Celebration,” said City Manager Scott Wynja. “The best part is how the weekend’s events bring people together to enjoy good company and some of the great things going on in this community.” For more information about Summer Celebration and the great events planned, find us on Facebook and Instagram or visit linktr.ee/summercelebration.
