Study: Orange City Area Health System Generated Over $100 Million in Local Impact in 2024

Orange City Area Health System contributed significantly to the region’s economy last year, generating 1,130 jobs and adding $58.4 million, according to a new report from the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA).

The study also found that the health system’s expenditures had an additional $111.5 million impact on the local economy.

“While caring for the health needs of those we serve is our number one priority, the economic impact we make addresses the economic health of our region as well,” said Marty Guthmiller, CEO of Orange City Area Health System.

The statewide study, based on hospital-reported data to the American Hospital Association, showed that Iowa hospitals employed 141,708 people in 2024 and provided more than $9.6 billion in wages. Hospital expenses accounted for $22.9 billion of the state’s gross domestic product.

“These benefits aren’t just numbers,” said Chris Mitchell, IHA President and CEO. “They represent real programs and services that improve lives across Iowa. Many of these initiatives wouldn’t exist without the leadership and commitment of our hospitals and health systems.”

The Iowa Hospital Association is a voluntary membership group that represents hospitals and health systems to businesses, government, and consumers.
