Two suspects have been taken into custody after a reported threat Wednesday morning that led the Storm Lake Elementary School to be placed on lockdown.
According to information on the Storm Lake Community School District Facebook page, the elementary school was put on lockdown as law enforcement officers conducted a sweep of the building. All students and staff were safe, and it was determined that the threat was not credible. The district does not believe there is a credible threat to school safety at this time.
The school day at the Elementary School is continuing as planned. There will be an increased law enforcement presence at the building for the remainder of today out of precaution. Storm Lake Police Chief Chris Cole says the department is still working on the case, and more information will soon be released.
The Storm Lake School District says they appreciate the quick response of the Storm Lake Police Department and Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department, as well as parents, families, and staff. The district strongly encourages students and families to speak up if they see or hear anything that could represent a potential school safety issue.
