Stolen Car Report Leads to Felony Arrests in Lyon County

Two women from the Sioux City area are facing felony charges after a stolen-vehicle incident that ended in Lyon County early Wednesday.

According to a criminal complaint from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, 24-year-old Brandy DeCora of Winnebago, Nebraska, and 21-year-old Prairee Springer of Sioux City are accused of stealing a 2016 Nissan Rogue. The case unfolded after the county communications center received a non-emergency call from a woman reporting that she and a friend had stolen a car and run out of gas.

A deputy located the pair and reported smelling alcohol on DeCora, who allegedly admitted to drinking and to being the driver. Springer is also accused of stealing the vehicle and an iPhone. The deputy says Springer had no plan to return the items, claiming she could not recall where the victim lived.

DeCora was charged with first-degree theft, a class C felony, and operating while under the influence–third or subsequent offense, a class D felony. Springer faces first-degree theft and a misdemeanor count of third-degree theft. Class C felonies carry penalties of up to ten years in prison; class D felonies carry up to five.

Both women remain in the Lyon County Jail in Rock Rapids — DeCora, held on $15,000 bond and Springer on $12,000 bond. Preliminary hearings are set for Friday, December 19.
