Speed Limit Reduced on Sioux Center’s 13th Avenue NE

Drivers in Sioux Center will need to slow down along a stretch of 13th Avenue NE.

The speed limit has been reduced from 45 miles per hour to 35 miles per hour between East 1st Street and the four-way stop at 7th Street NE. Both the Sioux Center City Council and the Sioux County Board of Supervisors approved the change, and the county has since updated the signage.

“The new signage is posted, and the speed trailer will be out there to remind people the speed limit has changed,” said Sioux Center Police Chief Josh Koedam. “We ask motorists to be vigilant and slow down to observe that new speed limit.”

Because 13th Avenue NE sits along the city’s east corporate line, it falls under the jurisdiction of both Sioux Center and Sioux County. The two entities said in a joint resolution that the 35-mile-per-hour limit was established “for the safety of pedestrians and the traveling public.”
