Today, business owners and community members will gather at Dordt University for the Siouxland Lean Consortium’s annual conference. The Consortium focuses on process improvement and leadership, but Mark Hand, an engineer with Diversified Technology Incorporated, describes the core definition.
The focus on waste reduction has led to significant financial turnarounds for businesses. Eric Steiger, a continuous improvement engineer at Pella, points to Dutchland Foods as a prime example of what happens when a community comes together to solve specific process problems.
While the Tuesday conference focuses on industrial and business processes, the conversation continues later in the week with a theological perspective on labor. Dale Zevenbergen, a business professor at Dordt University, is hosting a lecture Thursday night featuring Vladimir Snorenko. Zevenbergen says it is vital for people to understand their daily labor has intrinsic value.
The Siouxland Lean Consortium and Thursday’s “Framed for Work” lecture takes place in the Overlook at Dordt University. The Overlook is upstairs in the new Atrium building just East of the Campus Center. Those interested in attending can find registration links and more information at the Siouxland Lean website.
