A Sioux Falls woman faces 10 drug-related charges, including a Class C felony, following a weekend traffic stop in Sioux Center.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says 35-year-old Michelle Marie Hawkwing was arrested at approximately 12:39 a.m. Sunday. Hawkwing was reportedly a passenger in a vehicle stopped for an equipment violation.
Court complaints say the stop occurred shortly before midnight Saturday on Ninth Street Southeast.
Methamphetamine, Scales Allegedly Found
Authorities say K9 Rocky was deployed during the stop and indicated the presence of a controlled substance inside the vehicle.
According to the complaints, officers searched the vehicle and allegedly found liquid methamphetamine inside three syringes. The syringes were reportedly inside a black bag that also contained a credit card belonging to Hawkwing.
Authorities also allegedly found a separate baggie containing methamphetamine, three scales with methamphetamine residue, and several small baggies.
Several cannabidiol products and a marijuana pipe were also reportedly discovered.
The complaints allege Hawkwing was placed in the back of a patrol vehicle while officers conducted the search and attempted to conceal a methamphetamine pipe beneath the seat.
Ten Charges Filed
The Sheriff’s Office says Hawkwing has been charged with:
•One Class C felony count of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver
•Three counts of possession of methamphetamine
•Three counts of possession of cannabidiol
•One count of possession of marijuana
•Two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia
The felony complaint alleges the case involves no more than five grams of a mixture or substance containing methamphetamine.
The seven controlled-substance possession charges are listed as serious misdemeanors, while the two drug-paraphernalia charges are simple misdemeanors.
Hawkwing was transported to the Sioux County Jail, where, at last report, she remained on a $15,600 cash or surety bond.
