Sioux Falls Pair Charged In Alleged Casino Jackpot Scheme In Lyon County

Two Sioux Falls residents are facing felony charges after authorities say they were involved in a scheme to improperly claim a casino jackpot in Lyon County.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Lyon County District Court, 51-year-old Lisa Helene Kadinger-Meinders and 54-year-old William Albert Crossley III were both arrested Tuesday, March 24th, by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators allege the case centers around an incident at the Grand Falls Casino near Larchwood, where a slot jackpot of more than $10,000 was won.

Authorities say Kadinger-Meinders was the actual winner of the jackpot, but the two allegedly arranged for Crossley to claim the winnings instead. According to the affidavit, the arrangement was allegedly made to avoid tax reporting requirements and to prevent potential impacts on financial benefits.

Cases like this often draw scrutiny because jackpots above certain thresholds require identity verification and federal tax documentation. Investigators say casino surveillance, financial records, and related documentation were used as part of the investigation.

Charges Filed

Kadinger-Meinders is charged with:

Money Laundering – Acquire Property (Class C felony)
Conspiracy to Commit a Non-Forcible Felony (Class D felony)

Crossley is charged with:

Money Laundering – Acquire Property (Class C felony)
Gambling – False Claim of Winnings (Class D felony)

Under Iowa law, a Class C felony carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison, while a Class D felony is punishable by up to 5 years.

Arrest And Release

Both individuals were booked into custody on March 24th in Rock Rapids.

Both were released on their own recognizance, meaning they were not required to post bond but must appear for future court proceedings.

Ongoing Case

The incident allegedly occurred at Grand Falls Casino on February 21st. The case was filed on March 12th, with arrests made on March 24th, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Arrest Log.

Court proceedings are expected to continue in Lyon County.
