Sioux County is preparing to auction off a piece of land it owns in South Dakota.
Sioux County Engineer Joel Sikkema says the land has not yet been sold, but will go up for public auction on February 24th at 10:30 a.m. The auction will be held at the Alcester Golf Course.
Sikkema says Sioux County purchased the land several decades ago while exploring the possibility of developing a gravel pit in that area.
However, he says Sioux County has since developed multiple gravel pits closer to home, making the South Dakota property no longer necessary.
Sikkema says the county is hoping for strong interest and a competitive bidding process.
He adds that any sale would still be subject to final approval by the Sioux County Board of Supervisors after the auction is completed.
