Sioux County GOP to Hold Republican Caucuses Tonight in Rock Valley

The Sioux County Republican Party will hold its countywide caucuses tonight (Monday) in Rock Valley.

This year’s caucus will take place at a single location, rather than being split by precincts, with party leaders saying the change reflects lower turnout expectations in an off-election year.

Sioux County GOP Leader Rebecca Edwards says all participants will meet at the Park View Event Center.

The evening will include a straw poll covering the governor’s race, other statewide offices, and Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District.

While no candidates are expected to attend in person, campaigns will still be represented through prepared remarks. Party leaders say most candidates submit two-minute statements, which are either read by campaign representatives or by members of the county GOP executive board.

The caucus will also include platform nominations, with attendees allowed to submit ideas for the party’s platform. Those proposals are reviewed by a platform committee before being forwarded to the county convention in March, where they are voted on by delegates.

Edwards says even in an off year, the caucus plays an important role in shaping the party’s direction.

The Sioux County Republican Caucus begins at 7 p.m. tonight at the Park View Event Center in Rock Valley.
