Sioux County Engineer Outlines Upcoming Road Projects

Several key county roads in Sioux County are scheduled for major construction work in the coming year, as engineers prepare for long-term improvements and flood-related repairs.

Sioux County Engineer Joel Sikkema says the largest project planned is a concrete overlay on B40, the road heading east out of Sioux Center between K64 and Hospers.

Sikkema says the project will significantly extend the life of the road.

He says concrete overlays have proven to be effective for the county and are commonly used across Iowa.

In addition to the B40 project, Sioux County is also planning to replace two bridges northwest of Rock Valley that were damaged during the 2024 flood.

Sikkema says those bridge projects have taken longer to move forward due to the approval process through FEMA.

The B40 concrete overlay is expected to cost about $3 million, while the two bridge replacements are projected at approximately $900,000 and $800,000, respectively.

Sikkema says Sioux County typically spends around $10 million per year on road maintenance and improvements, and these projects represent some of the most significant work planned for the upcoming construction season.
