Sioux County Democrats will gather for their 2026 caucuses on Monday, February 2nd, at the Sioux Center Public Library.
Chair Anita Cirulis says the midterm caucuses serve a different purpose than presidential-year events, but still play a key role in shaping the party’s direction.
Cirulis says attendees will also be able to sign nominating petitions for Democratic candidates across the ticket, including statewide and congressional races, allowing candidates to qualify for the primary ballot and giving voters more choices.
The caucus is open to any Sioux County resident who is a registered Democrat and will be at least 18 years old by November 3rd. People can also register to vote or change party affiliation at the event. Youth who are at least 13 years old but not yet eligible to vote are invited to attend as observers.
Ahead of the caucus, the party plans to hold a peaceful pro-immigrant rally outside the library starting at 5 p.m., with participants encouraged to bring signs and dress warmly as they gather along Highway 75.
Cirulis says interest in this year’s caucus appears strong as she’s reached out to local Democrats.
Doors will open at 6:15 p.m., and participants must be signed in or in line by 7 p.m. to take part.
