The burn ban in Sioux County has officially been lifted, allowing residents to resume normal outdoor burning activities under certain conditions.
Officials say while weather conditions have improved enough to lift the ban, the risk of fire has not been eliminated. Residents are still encouraged to use caution when conducting any type of burn.
Anyone planning a controlled burn is required to notify the Sioux County Communications Center in advance. This applies to field burns, ditch burns, and other large controlled burns. Calling ahead helps prevent unnecessary emergency responses and ensures first responders remain available for true emergencies.
Residents can contact the Sioux County Communications Center at (712) 737-3307 before burning.
Officials note that smaller recreational fires do not require notification. This includes backyard fire pits, bonfires, grilling, gas or charcoal, and fires contained within proper fire rings.
Even with the burn ban lifted, officials recommend taking precautions such as having water or tools nearby and never leaving a fire unattended. The burn ban had been in effect since Tuesday morning.
