Sioux City Woman Arrested on Felony OWI Charges in Hawarden

A Sioux City woman has been arrested on felony operating-while-intoxicated charges in Hawarden.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Sioux County, 32-year-old Nicole Blackmore was arrested Sunday and charged with operating while intoxicated and driving while barred.

In his report, a Hawarden police officer says authorities received a call about a suspected intoxicated driver headed toward Casey’s in Hawarden. The officer located the vehicle in the Coilcraft parking lot and made contact with the driver.

The officer reports Blackmore failed an initial sobriety test and refused to participate in additional testing, citing a medical condition. Her blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.345, which, if accurate, is more than four times the legal limit of 0.08.

Blackmore was charged with operating while under the influence, third or subsequent offense, a Class D felony. If convicted, she could face up to five years in prison. She also faces a misdemeanor charge of driving while barred.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 27th. At last report, Blackmore remained in the Sioux County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond.
