Sioux Center’s Highway 75 reconstruction is making strong progress this August, with crews tackling everything from paving to underground infrastructure and pedestrian improvements.
Northbound and southbound lanes have now been paved from 2nd Street South near Children’s Dental to 2nd Street North near The Fruited Plain. Side street connections are complete at 4th Street South, and work is underway at 3rd Street South. The next major goal is to open 2nd Street North downtown before crews shift to closing the 3rd Street North intersection, which includes key downtown traffic signals.
Sidewalk and driveway grading is also in motion from 5th Street South to 2nd Street North, with paving crews expected soon. Streetlight bases are being installed to improve nighttime safety.
Despite frequent rain, underground crews have made headway north of 3rd Street North, installing water mains and services to properties on the east side of Highway 75 up to 5th Street North. Storm sewer work is progressing, and deep sewer installation at the 3rd Street North intersection is on deck.
The city also thanked contractors who quickly responded to storm cleanup needs after high winds swept through the area on July 28 and 29.
Looking ahead, residents can expect:
- Final paving connections near The Fruited Plain
- Additional side street and turn lane paving
- Completion of sidewalks and driveways
- Continued streetlight and landscaping work
- Water service installation on the west side of Highway 75
The next public construction update meeting is set for Wednesday, August 13 at 11 a.m. at the Sioux Center Public Library. Residents are invited to hear updates from city staff and engineers and ask questions about the ongoing work.
This 2.5-mile reconstruction project, a partnership between the City of Sioux Center and the Iowa DOT, is designed to improve safety, function, and aesthetics along the corridor. A separate project north of 12th Street North is planned for future years.
