The annual Sioux Center E-Cycle Event takes place this Saturday morning at Pella’s south loading docks. Each year residents and surrounding communities are encouraged to participate in the annual E-Cycle Event. They start accepting recyclables at 7:30am and will continue until 9:30am, or until the trucks are full, whichever comes first. E-Cycle event committee member Jodie Wielenga says it is an opportunity to safely dispose of electronic items in an environmentally safe manner:
Various items are accepted, such as: computers, laptops, cell phones, stereos, iPods/mp3 players, televisions, VCR/DVD players, video game systems, electric mixers, coffee makers, nail guns, drills, and much more.
There are items that will not be accepted such as large appliances.
She says it is an easy process to get through:
This event is free; however, donations are greatly appreciated. Donations collected go towards a local charity.
The Sioux Center E-Cycle event was first held in 2009 and has continued with a great success. It is estimated that 40% of lead found in landfills is from e-waste.
This E-Cycle Event is sponsored by these environmentally conscious companies: The City of Sioux Center, Interstates, Pella Corporation, Brommer Sanitation, Visser Elevator, and Center Fresh.
