Sioux Center Municipal Utilities has received the Utility That Never Stops Award from Missouri River Energy Services (MRES). The recognition was presented during Technology Days 2025 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Utilities Manager Murray Hulstein says the recognition goes beyond electricity—it represents everything that they offer.
The award honors utilities that show outstanding commitment to system reliability, community growth, local involvement, and mutual aid. Hulstein says he believes the name of the award represents what Sioux Center Municipal Utilities strives to be.
Sioux Center was recognized for its proactive infrastructure improvements, including 40,000 feet of new wire and 39 new services, as well as for outreach programs with local schools and assistance to neighboring communities after natural disasters.
Hulstein also said that they continue to strive to serve the community in many local events throughout the year, such as the “Touch a Truck” event, speaking at schools, and more.
Sioux Center Municipal Utilities provides power to more than 2,760 customers and is one of 61 members of Missouri River Energy Services (MRES.) MRES is a wholesale power provider for these member municipalities, like Sioux Center in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota, which each manage and operate their own local utility.
