Sioux Center Summer Celebration Returns Starting Wednesday

Four days full of music, food, family activities, and community traditions are returning to Sioux Center as Summer Celebration takes place June 3rd through 6th.

Organizers say this year’s event lineup includes everything from live music and a free community cookout to car shows, kids’ activities, a street dance, and the annual parade.

Speaking on The Daily Grind, Sioux Center City Manager Scott Wynja says the celebration is designed to bring the community together as summer begins.

Sioux Center Chamber CEO Barb Den Herder says volunteers, local businesses, sponsors, and city staff all play a major role in making the event possible each year.

Organizers say more than 150 volunteers help serve the free community cookout alone, while dozens of sponsors help keep many of the weekend’s activities free for families.

Summer Celebration officially begins Wednesday evening with the opening performance of “James and the Giant Peach” at the Te Paske Theatre inside the Sioux Center Middle School.

Schedule Highlights
“James and the Giant Peach” Musical — 6:00 p.m.

Thursday features one of the weekend’s signature traditions — the free community cookout in Central Park.

The cookout traces its roots back decades and continues to serve thousands of people each year.

Live music from the NWC Worship Collective will accompany the evening festivities at the bandshell, while the Sioux Center Fire Department will also host an open house featuring new equipment and vehicles.

Schedule Highlights
Book Sale — 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Free Community Cookout — 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Fire Department Open House — 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
“James and the Giant Peach” Musical — 7:00 p.m.

Friday’s lineup includes a tractor ride, quilt show, golf tournament, classic car cruise-in, food vendors, and the annual downtown street dance.

Because of the ongoing Highway 75 construction project, organizers say the traditional cruise night has transitioned into a “cruise-in” format at the Centre Mall parking lot.

The evening concludes with live music from The Ruralists and IV Play during the downtown street dance.
