The Sioux Center City Council has approved this year’s fireworks dates and times, including a change that shortens how late fireworks can be used on Sundays.
Under the updated rules, fireworks will be allowed in Sioux Center from June 13 through July 6 during the following hours:
Fireworks Hours in Sioux Center
Sunday through Thursday
9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Fridays, Saturdays, and July 4th
9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
The extended 11 p.m. hours apply to:
July 4
Fridays immediately before and after July 4
Saturdays immediately before and after July 4
This year, those extended hours continue through July 6
Previously, fireworks were allowed until 11 p.m. on Sundays. The council voted to move Sunday hours back to 10 p.m., matching other weekday limits.
New Year’s Eve Fireworks
Fireworks are also permitted on:
December 31: beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Through 12:30 a.m. on January 1
Important Rules to Know
City officials also reminded residents of several fireworks regulations:
•Users must be 18 years old or older to purchase or use fireworks
•Fireworks used outside the approved dates and times are subject to a minimum $250 fine
•Residents are encouraged to clean up debris after use
Josh Koedam emphasized both safety and consideration for neighbors during the holiday season.
“We ask Sioux Center residents to use safety and common sense as they celebrate. Please be aware of and respect your neighbors if you use fireworks,” Koedam said.
He also encouraged residents to follow the approved hours and clean up trash afterward.
“It’s important to be safe and respectful to others while we have fun,” he added.
