Sioux Center will celebrate its Highway 75 reconstruction project Monday, October 12, with a community ribbon-cutting celebration, ahead of the highway’s anticipated opening to through traffic sometime in November.
The City of Sioux Center and Iowa Department of Transportation invite the public to attend the event from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Central Park.
Program and Community Celebration
A program featuring representatives from the Iowa DOT, city officials, and project partners will begin at 4 p.m., followed by a ribbon-cutting on Highway 75 alongside the park.
Free refreshments from a variety of Sioux Center restaurants will be available in Central Park throughout the event.
“Rebuilding Highway 75 has involved 4 years of construction through Sioux Center and more than a decade of planning. This project is something we can all celebrate together,” said Sioux Center Mayor Dale Vander Berg.
The October celebration does not mark the highway’s reopening to through traffic. City officials say that is expected sometime in November.
“While we anticipate the highway being fully open to traffic some time in November, we are hosting this event in October to catch some nicer weather and allow the community to come be part of the celebration,” Vander Berg said.
Rebuilding Highway 75
The project has rebuilt 2.5 miles of Highway 75 through the heart of Sioux Center as an enhanced four-lane roadway, with two travel lanes in each direction, medians, and a center turn lane.
Improvements also include sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, storm sewer, and streetscape features, along with significant city utility improvements.
The multi-year reconstruction began in 2023, replacing the aging roadway with a design focused on safety, improved traffic function, and community character.
Central Park is located at 502 North Main Avenue. In case of rain, the celebration will be held at Fire Station 1, located at 408 North Main Avenue.
