Sioux Center Receives “Fantastic” Response to Downtown Survey

Results from a new community survey show strong support for making downtown Sioux Center more walkable, vibrant, and connected.

Speaking with Sioux County Radio, City Manager Scott Wynja said that the survey was designed to gather community input for shaping the future of downtown Sioux Center.

The survey drew a response from 125 residents. The top priorities included: safety and walkability (73%), better access to dining and shopping (63%), and a refreshed downtown appearance (46%). Wynja lays out that these were priorities in the Highway 75 Construction project in Sioux Center.

Wynja says the goal is not only to enhance the experience for residents, but also to strengthen downtown’s appeal for visitors.

When looking at future priorities, respondents ranked more restaurants and cafés as the top need, followed by additional housing. While no timeline for improvements was identified, Wynja says the city will use the feedback to help determine what should be added to the downtown area.

Wynja said the city may explore ways to better connect Central Park with downtown and continue attracting additional businesses to the district. The survey also showed that more than 70% of respondents believe Sioux Center should “dream big” for long-term growth — a vision Wynja says aligns closely with the City’s goals.
