Alexandra Bandstra, a senior at Dordt University, has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from Sioux Center Municipal Utilities and SCMU’s energy partner Missouri River Energy Services.
“As Sioux Center’s municipal utility provider, we look for ways to give back to the community we serve through our partnership with Missouri River Energy Services,” said Sioux Center Utility Manager Murray Hulstein. “Congratulations to Alexandra and best wishes as you pursue your studies at Dordt and begin your career.”
This $1,000 scholarship is given annually to a student at Dordt University whose family is a customer of Sioux Center’s community-owned municipal power utility. A recipient is selected each year by the university.
“Because of the scholarship, my tuition has become more affordable, and I am now able to spend more intentional time on my studies rather than working to pay off a loan,” Bandstra said. “I am excited for my future and the opportunities I will encounter that will challenge me to apply the knowledge that I have learned in and outside of the classroom at Dordt.”
Bandstra, the daughter of Al and Jolene Bandstra of Sioux Center, is pursuing a degree in social work. After graduation, she hopes to work in a position that helps and serves others, such as a hospital social worker, an art therapist, a holistic nutritionist, or working with individuals that have intellectual disabilities.
