Sioux Center Man Sentenced in Multi-Victim Abuse Cases

A Sioux Center man has been sentenced following a string of incidents spanning nearly a year. Corbin Van Briesen, 22, faced charges across six separate cases involving domestic abuse, child endangerment, stalking, and harassment.

The earliest case, from August 2024, involved Van Briesen assaulting a woman and attempting to forcibly take her phone and child. Months later, authorities were alerted to suspicious injuries on a nonverbal autistic child under his care. Van Briesen also harassed the child’s mother, uploading explicit content to her social media without consent.

Between December and July, Van Briesen repeatedly violated no-contact orders, sending thousands of texts and threatening messages to multiple former partners. In one case, he used third-party apps and voicemails to intimidate a woman after their breakup.

Following a plea deal, Van Briesen admitted guilt to five charges, including domestic abuse assault and child endangerment causing bodily injury. While prosecutors sought an 11-year prison term, the court suspended most of the sentence, ordering 365 days in jail with 270 days suspended, four years of probation, and $3,590 in fines. He must also complete counseling and the Iowa Domestic Abuse Program.

No-contact orders for all five victims were extended for the maximum five-year period.
