A Hawarden man is facing charges after a domestic incident Friday night that took place in Sioux Center.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sioux Center Police Department, officers were called to a residence on North Meadow Drive at 7:36 p.m. A woman reported being kicked in the head, and officers noted she had a large purple-and-blue welt on her forehead. She was transported by ambulance to Sioux Center Health.
The suspect, 55-year-old Kevin Lawrence Murphy of Hawarden, denied the allegations and claimed the woman had assaulted him. However, officers reported that he had no visible injuries and that his statements were inconsistent. He also claimed to have multiple videos showing the woman attacking him, but only produced one that did not depict an assault.
Officers further noted that while Murphy claimed he was unable to stand, they observed him get up to look for his phone. They also saw him drinking whiskey, though he stated he had only consumed beer.
Murphy was taken into custody and is being charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Injury, first offense, a serious misdemeanor. A preliminary hearing will be held on October 14th.
