A Sioux Center man faces multiple charges following what police describe as a domestic disturbance involving several family members and a child inside a Sioux Center residence earlier this month.
According to court records, 35-year-old Franklin Josue Coj-Lux was arrested on May 22nd by the Sioux Center Police Department.
Authorities say officers responded to a residence in Sioux Center on the night of May 21st for a reported domestic disturbance in progress. Court documents allege officers found a stepdaughter with a visible bite mark on her arm after she attempted to intervene in an altercation between Coj-Lux and his wife.
According to the affidavit, witnesses told officers that Coj-Lux placed his wife in a chokehold and dragged her up a staircase by her neck. Another stepdaughter reported Coj-Lux had been verbally abusive before the physical confrontation and allegedly moved toward her in a threatening manner when she attempted to intervene.
Court records also state that a 6-year-old child was nearby during the incident and appeared visibly distressed. Investigators wrote that witness statements were consistent with physical evidence gathered at the scene.
Coj-Lux faces the following charges:
•Child Endangerment (Aggravated Misdemeanor)
•Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Flow of Air/Blood (Aggravated Misdemeanor)
•Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury or Mental Illness – 1st Offense (Serious Misdemeanor)
•Domestic Abuse Assault – 1st Offense (Simple Misdemeanor)
Jail records show Coj-Lux was later released from custody on May 25th to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
