The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Sioux Center man following a weekend house fire south of Orange City.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies took 52-year-old Greg Aberson of Sioux Center into custody around 4:43 p.m. Saturday, October 25. The arrest followed a report of a fire at a residence located at 4911 Ironwood Avenue, about four miles south of Orange City.
When emergency crews arrived, the home was partially engulfed in flames, and heavy smoke was visible. Authorities stated that the residence was unoccupied at the time, and no injuries were reported.
After the fire was extinguished, deputies determined the blaze appeared suspicious and launched an arson investigation, which led to Aberson’s arrest.
Aberson was booked into the Sioux County Jail and charged with second-degree arson, a Class C felony.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Orange City, Alton, Maurice, and Sioux Center Fire Departments, the Orange City Ambulance, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
