A Sioux Center man was arrested Saturday evening after the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a harassment complaint and alleged threatening comments.
According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested 23-year-old Corbin Joseph Van Briesen of Sioux Center at about 5:50 p.m. Saturday.
Authorities say the arrest stemmed from a report of harassment. During the investigation, deputies determined Van Briesen had allegedly made threatening comments. Officials say when deputies questioned him about the comments, he attempted to flee on foot from law enforcement.
According to the report, Van Briesen was taken into custody and transported to the Sioux County Jail.
He was charged with second-degree harassment, a serious misdemeanor, along with two counts of interference with official acts causing bodily injury, also serious misdemeanors.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says the Sioux Center Police Department and Sioux Center Ambulance assisted at the scene.
Court records show Van Briesen is being held on a $3,000 cash-only bond.
A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
