Sioux Center residents can dispose of household hazardous materials today, Thursday, Sept. 10, during the city’s annual Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off.
The collection runs from 3 to 5:30 p.m. in the south parking lot of the Sioux Center Fire Station. Most accepted materials can be dropped off free of charge, although latex paint carries a $1-per-gallon fee.
The event is for residential disposal only. Commercial hazardous waste will not be accepted.
Accepted items include:
- Degreasers
- Cell phone, rechargeable, and lithium batteries
- Waxes and polishes
- Solvents
- Lacquers and thinners
- Caustic household cleaners
- Spot and stain removers
- Compact fluorescent light bulbs
- Pesticides and herbicides
- Oil-based paints
- Latex paint, with a $1-per-gallon fee
Household hazardous materials include products that are corrosive, flammable, toxic, or reactive. Labels marked “DANGER,” “WARNING,” or “CAUTION” can help residents identify potentially hazardous products.
