Sioux Center House is Uninhabitable After Fire

Sioux Center, Iowa — A family is doing without their home after a fire on Saturday, February 22, 2025, in Sioux Center.

According to Sioux Center Fire Chief David Van Holland, at about 8:55 a.m., the Sioux Center Fire Department was called to the report of a house fire at 353 9th Street Southeast in Sioux Center.

The chief says the fire department saw smoke from the top of the house as they approached the scene. He says they used an interior attack to fight the fire, pulling smoldering insulation out of the attic.

Van Holland says no injuries were reported.

The fire department was assisted per their automatic aid agreement from the Ireton Fire Department and they called for a RIT Team from Orange City.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature, and it appeared that the wiring to a light fixture was to blame.

Chief Van Holland reports that the home is uninhabitable at this time, and the family has made arrangements to live elsewhere, at least temporarily.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about two hours.
