Sioux Center Fire Engulfs Barn and Hay

A barn north of Sioux Center was destroyed Friday afternoon after a fire that drew crews from four fire departments.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says the report came in just after 2 p.m. at 3611 Highway 75, about a mile north of town. When Sioux Center firefighters arrived, the barn was already fully engulfed. Additional departments and water tankers were called in to help control the fire and extinguish burning hay bales.

Fire crews were on scene for roughly four hours. No injuries were reported.

According to fire officials, the blaze is believed to have started when a skid loader’s exhaust pipe came into contact with hay inside the barn.

Responding agencies included the Sioux Center Fire Department and Ambulance Squad, fire departments from Hull, Ireton, and Rock Valley, along with the Sioux Center Police Department and Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.
