A Sibley woman was killed, and a Sibley man was injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Lyon County.
The Iowa State Patrol says the crash happened at approximately 3:53 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at the intersection of County Roads A34 and K52.
Vehicles Collide in Intersection
According to the crash report, 19-year-old Tristan Smith of Rock Rapids was driving a 2021 Buick Envision northbound on County Road K52.
At the same time, 69-year-old Steven Ludwig of Sibley was driving an open-top 1991 Jeep Wrangler eastbound on County Road A34.
The patrol says Smith failed to stop at a stop sign, and the Buick collided with the Jeep in the intersection. Both vehicles then entered the northeast ditch.
Both occupants of the Jeep were ejected from the vehicle.
Passenger Killed, Driver Airlifted
A passenger in the Jeep, 73-year-old Joleene Klaassen of Sibley, was killed in the crash.
Ludwig was injured and transported by helicopter to Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. His condition was not included in the report.
The crash report lists Ludwig as not wearing a seat belt. No injuries were reported for Smith.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Trackside Towing.
The Iowa State Patrol investigated the crash with assistance from Lyon County emergency personnel.
