Work on Hull’s Division Street reconstruction project is moving into another phase this week, with crews expected to finish sanitary sewer main installation and continue replacing natural gas infrastructure.
According to the City of Hull’s latest construction update, Bainbridge Construction plans to finish the sanitary sewer main between July 20 and July 24. Crews will then begin connecting existing sanitary sewer services to the newly installed main.
As part of that work, the Second Street and Division Street intersection will be closed to eastbound traffic beginning Tuesday, July 21. The City expects the intersection to reopen Wednesday morning.
The sanitary sewer main between Third and Second streets was recently completed. The Fifth Street intersection will remain open until water main work begins.
Gas and Water Utility Work
MidAmerican Energy is expected to finish replacing the gas main from Third Street to Fifth Street this week. The work also includes replacing gas services that conflict with the ongoing construction.
Temporary water lines have been placed across sidewalks to provide service to residences in the construction area. Pedestrians are asked to use caution around the lines to avoid tripping.
Water main and service installation is expected to begin in the coming weeks. The project includes replacing the existing four-inch water main with a new 12-inch line.
Residents parking along nearby side streets are also asked to avoid blocking mailboxes.
Waste Collection Procedures
Bainbridge Construction will assist with waste collection while Division Street remains closed. Residents should place their waste containers in front of their homes by 7 a.m. on collection days.
The contractor will move the containers to a side road for collection and return them to the appropriate properties afterward. Residents are asked not to retrieve the containers themselves following collection.
The Division Street project includes concrete pavement reconstruction and possible corrective work to the road’s subgrade, including a new granular pavement base. Sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and water utilities are also being replaced throughout the construction area from Greenway to Fifth Street.
