One person was taken to the hospital after a commercial vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon on Highway 10, about four miles east of Hawarden.
According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s office, 43-year-old Pieter Hanekom of Rock Valley was driving a semi-tractor eastbound on Highway 10. Hanekom reported that a tire ruptured, causing him to lose control of the vehicle which entered the north ditch, and came to rest of the driver’s side.
Hanekom was taken by the Hawarden Ambulance to Hawarden Regional Health for treatment of injuries. Damage to the semi-tractor and trailer was estimated at 40-thousand-dollars.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by Hawarden Police Department, Hawarden Fire Department and Hawarden Ambulance.
