Sanborn Man Faces Drug Trafficking Charges

A Sanborn man could face more than a century behind bars if convicted on multiple drug-related charges.

According to a criminal complaint filed by the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, 29-year-old Hunter Koontz of Sanborn is accused of selling methamphetamine to confidential informants on several occasions earlier this year. Deputies say some of the sales took place near schools, parks, and the city’s swimming pool.

Koontz was arrested Tuesday on a warrant and now faces four counts of drug trafficking, each a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison. He also faces three counts of drug tax stamp violations, Class D felonies that each carry a possible five-year sentence.

A preliminary hearing is set for Friday, September 19th. Koontz remains in the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar on a $75,000 cash or surety bond.
