A Sanborn man has pleaded guilty in federal court following the robbery of a bank in Sanborn last January. Court documents show that 40-year-old Del Matinnez Evans Jr. is accused of robbing the Sanborn Savings Bank back on January 22.
He originally faced state charges of second-degree robbery and second-degree theft, which he pleaded not guilty to in February. Those charges were dismissed in favor of a federal case where Evans was charged with bank robbery by force or violence.
Authorities claim Evans entered the bank and handed the teller a note saying this was a robbery. The original criminal complaint says no weapons were displayed or referenced during the robbery, but Evans got away with cash. He was arrested at his Sanborn home shortly after the robbery.
Evans faces up to 20 years in prison – no sentencing date has been set.
