Rock Valley Mayor Thanks Sioux Center

The Sioux Center City Council met Monday afternoon, and during opening public comments, Rock Valley Mayor Kevin Van Otterloo along with Rock Valley City Administrator Tom Van Maanen and City Foreman Myron Van Ginkel publicly thanked Sioux Center for their assistance with the flooding in June.

After approving the minutes of the previous council meeting, the council approved capital loan notes totaling $5.9M for three separate projects – a new fire truck, the Highway 75 project, and the 20th Street sewer and water project.

New Sioux Center Christian School Head of School Paul Brenner came before council with Police Chief Josh Koedam seeking approval for a dedicated school resource officer for the Christian school.  Citing the success of sharing the current SRO with the community school district and envisioning the impact a dedicated SRO would have; Sioux Center Christian School is offering to pay the wages and benefits of the SRO while the officer remains an employee of the city.  The council approved the plan to move forward with developing an agreement to that effect.

The council approved a resolution to sell property to Vision Builders who plan to develop the property in the Country View Heights 3rd Addition.  Vision Builders has a three-tiered plan to develop homes in three separate markets, homes valued at under $200k, under $300k, and upper end homes.  All the properties will be developed in the north part of Sioux Center with homes under the $300k market going up first, possibly starting this fall.

In other action, the city council approved a public hearing for August 27 for Amendment #9 to the Sioux Center Urban Renewal Plan, approved the final payment for the South Ridge Estates Water Main Loop project, and approved an agreement to use Ahlers and Cooney Law Firm as bond council for bonding.  The next city council meeting will be held August 27 at 4pm.
