Rock Valley Marks One Year of Recovery After Historic Flood

ROCK VALLEY, Iowa – The City of Rock Valley will commemorate the one-year anniversary of its historic flood recovery with a community event on Tuesday, June 10. Governor Kim Reynolds and Mayor Kevin Van Otterloo will speak at the ceremony, held at 10:15 AM at the Valley Vue Housing Development. A ribbon-cutting will follow to celebrate the city’s progress.

Since the disaster on June 22, 2024, Rock Valley has worked alongside key partners to create over 120 new housing units and more than 75 available lots, providing vital options for displaced residents and welcoming new families. The city has also focused on revitalizing its downtown, reopening businesses, and investing in infrastructure improvements.

This event will honor the resilience of Rock Valley’s residents and the strength of community partnerships that have driven recovery efforts. Officials acknowledge the ongoing challenges but emphasize the city’s determination to rebuild and grow.

Governor Reynolds’ participation highlights the importance of state and local collaboration in disaster recovery. Her presence reinforces Rock Valley’s message: “We are back – stronger than ever.”

Residents and community members are invited to attend the ceremony and reaffirm Rock Valley as a “Place of Opportunities.”
