Road to Iowa Governor 2026: Brad Sherman Outlines Priorities

Former Iowa State Representative Brad Sherman says restoring what he calls the “foundations of freedom” is the guiding focus of his campaign for governor, as he seeks the office in the 2026 election.

Speaking with Sioux County Radio as part of its ongoing gubernatorial interview series, Sherman said his priorities center on educating Iowans about how government is intended to function.

Sherman said that emphasis naturally extends to education, arguing that citizens must understand those principles to recognize when government is not working as intended.

Property taxes are another issue Sherman says he consistently hears about while traveling the state, particularly from seniors and Iowans on fixed incomes.

Sherman said he supports exploring ways to reduce or eliminate property taxes on primary residences for retirees, saying the goal should be to keep seniors in their homes and families rooted in Iowa communities.

Asked what distinguishes him from other candidates in the race, Sherman pointed to both the timing of his campaign and his background.

Sherman cited his experience in blue-collar work, real estate development, pastoring, grassroots political organizing, and service in the Iowa Legislature, saying that range of experience shapes his approach to governing.

He added that voters can expect him to govern independently, guided by constitutional principles rather than donor influence.

Sherman is one of several candidates seeking the governor’s office in 2026. Sioux County Radio will continue its gubernatorial interview series with additional candidates in the weeks ahead.
