Riverboat Foundation Unveils $1.4M in 2026 Grant Awards

The Lyon County Riverboat Foundation has released its latest competitive grant awards, distributing $1.4 million in 2026 funding to 18 organizations across northwest Iowa, southeast South Dakota, and southwest Minnesota. Around 100 representatives from local nonprofits, schools, and governments attended the ceremony.

The foundation focuses its giving in four areas: Community Development & Beautification, Education & Arts, Economic Development, and Human & Social Needs.

This year’s largest share—$800,000—went to 11 Human & Social Needs projects, including funding for a new Doon EMS ambulance, an inclusive playground at West Lyon, pickleball courts in George, and new gear for the Lester Fire Department. Education & Arts projects received $100,000, with key awards supporting a Lyon County Star Lab and school safety training for Central Lyon, George–Little Rock, and West Lyon. More than $500,000 went to Community Development & Beautification projects, including a new community center in Larchwood. Veterans’ programs received over $130,000, benefiting Midwest Honor Flight Mission 29, Hero Haven Outdoor Adventures, and G.I.V.E.

Since its creation in 2011, the Lyon County Riverboat Foundation has awarded more than $30 million, including over $4 million in 2025 alone.
